Tax Resolution
IRS Tax Problems, Handled
Settle Your IRS Debts
Owing the IRS is different from owing anyone else. The IRS can levy your bank account, garnish your wages and file liens against your property without going to court first — and unlike most creditors, it doesn't give up.
I'm a tax attorney and accountant admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court. I represent taxpayers before the IRS nationwide, and I deal with them so you don't have to.
How I Can Help
If you owe more than you can pay
- Offer in Compromise — settling your liability for less than the full amount, where you qualify
- Partial Pay Installment Agreements — monthly payments based on what you can actually afford, with the balance potentially expiring
- Formalized Installment Agreements — a structured payment plan that stops enforced collection
- Currently Not Collectible status — a hold on collection when paying anything would leave you unable to cover basic living expenses
If collection has already started
- Stopping bank levies and wage garnishments
- Collection holds and extensions
- Responding to asset seizure
If something went wrong earlier
- Unfiled returns — getting missing years filed, which has to happen before most other options open up
- Penalty abatement — removing penalties where there's reasonable cause
- Innocent spouse relief — separating your liability from a spouse's or former spouse's
- Audit representation — dealing with the examination on your behalf
- Fresh Start Program eligibility
When Bankruptcy Is the Better Tool
Some tax debt can be discharged in bankruptcy. Not all of it, and not usually the recent years — but older income tax liabilities can qualify if they meet the timing rules.
This is where being both a tax attorney and a bankruptcy attorney matters. Most tax resolution firms don't file bankruptcy, and most bankruptcy attorneys refer tax debt out. I look at both routes and tell you which one actually resolves your situation.
